Our Style of Practice

Bikram Yoga Method – Original 90 Minute Classes + Express 60 Minute Classes

Bikram Method Yoga is the original hot yoga- it is a 90 minute, 26 posture + 2 breathing exercise sequence that is suitable for all ages and levels of ability. The Express Classes are 60 Minutes long, with the same 26 postures + 2 breathing exercises of the Bikram series, with only 1 set of most of the postures instead of 2.

Participating in a Bikram method class will leave you feeling renewed and rejuvenated, cultivating a sense of well-being mentally and physically that lasts long after you leave the hot room. This sequence is a systematic and scientific prescription that can be used to treat ailments and is proven effective as preventive medicine against disease, sickness and all manner of issues physiologically, psychological and spiritually. It’s a great way to stay in shape, toning the muscles, organs and bones, and cultivate flexibility and improved circulation.

If you’re just starting out, the idea of doing yoga in a heated room may feel daunting… at first. Before trying something new it can be hard to even picture ourselves doing it. We guarantee that you’ll feel so great after your first class that you’ll want to keep coming back for more! The practice is designed for all bodies and all people, simply come as you are and do what you can. This is all that is required.

Benefits of this practice

Heat + Sweat

In the Original Hot Yoga class of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises the heat is set to 105°F or 40°C with 40% humidity, creating a hot and humid environment perfect for sweating. By heating your body, you loosen the muscles to receive deeper stretches. You are stretching as your strengthening in correct alignment in the hot room, which opens the body safely. With all the heat, humidity + stretching in class, generally you won’t feel tight the next day.

The heat and postures increase circulation throughout the body. This cleanses the blood and rinses all your organs, glands, tissues, fibers and systems. As we generate sweat our internal body detoxifies and is cooled naturally through the largest organ, our skin. In addition, the cardiovascular system is stimulated and strengthened, thinning the blood and balancing blood pressure. The heart rate is increased enhancing the cardiovascular workout, strengthening the heart muscle and respiratory system, and facilitating weight loss.

Infrared Heat Therapy

Infrared heaters are therapeutic + detoxifying! They are used in baby incubators, therapeutic saunas and 80% of the heat that reaches earth is in the form of Infrared heat. Our Hot Yoga room is equipped with Infrared heaters that work by heating our bodies and the objects in the room without heating the surrounding air like other forms of heat. For this reason, Infrared Hot rooms are suitable for people who suffer from respiratory issues but still want to access a hot yoga class. This unique Infrared heating also penetrates deep into the body tissues, causing the molecules to vibrate and expel toxins, fat and other impurities from your cells and into the blood stream to be released from the body via sweat! It is great therapy for sore muscles, stiffness and joint pain -especially chronic arthritis. Come and feel the benefits!

The Postures

The series was adapted and designed from the rich knowledge of thousands of yoga asanas (postures) developed in ancient India over 5,000 years ago as a therapeutic yoga sequence that can benefit beginners and advanced students alike. The 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in the Bishnu Gosh tradition was originally put together by Bikram Choudury, however this studio is not a Bikram Yoga Franchised studio. Circle studios is happy to be affiliated with Evolation Yoga a collective that offers Hot Yoga, Flow Yoga, Rainbow Kids Yoga and Synergy Partner Yoga training’s with an inspiring crew of teachers, in location all around the world.

Spine Health

“The spine is the source of all energy in human life.” – Bishnu Charan Gosh

The spine is the most complicated structure in our body. It is the major communication highway between your brain and body, with your central nervous system connecting throughout the whole body. A healthy spine means health throughout the entire body. In yoga class we stretch the spine in all directions throughout the various yoga postures, creating space between the vertebrae and developing the muscles of the back and abdomen. These movements encourage healing to the spine by taking pressure off the vertebral discs through natural traction and increasing blood flow to all areas of the spine, spinal cord + nerves of the central nervous system.

Breath Awareness

Connection with the breath is a powerful tool for health, awareness and relaxation.  It is the life blood of Yoga practice… and of life force in the body! Practicing Yoga increases our supply of oxygen and also teaches us how to use that oxygen properly by cultivating breath awareness. Learning to move with slow deep steady breath during class increases the body’s vital energy, or prana. This contributes to the feelings of peace and clarity of mind and energizes the body naturally by oxygenating the blood down to every cell.

Oxygen deprivation is a major cause of spasms + other muscle pains and sciatica. Studies show breath control decreases stress in the body- this is helpful considering stress has been proven linked to 80% of all diseases. Moving mindfully with breath during this practice is a effective tool to help counteract stress, increase your energy and feel amazing naturally.

Yoga for the Mind

The Original Hot yoga class is taught as a 90-minute meditation- combining Hatha and Raja yoga. In this crazy busy world, where we’re all rushing from one place to the next and the day is filled to the brim, it’s easy for us to run on overdrive, living in a state of stress, fatigue and restlessness. Combining breath control and concentration with the postures, results in the mind slowing down and induces relaxation. In this state of relaxation we have the ability to think, see and feel from a fresh new perspective; increasing our self-awareness. We challenge you in class to focus on what you are doing moment by moment as a way to practice silencing the chatter in the mind. During the Bikram method class we naturally develop the five qualities of the mind: concentration, determination, faith, patience and self-control. We will encourage you to never give up, no matter the obstacles until you reach your goals. All of this happens naturally in the yoga class – simply get here and do your best and let the benefits in!

Yoga for Stress

Scientific research has proven that long-term exposure to the stress hormones cortisol + adrenaline compromises the immune system and this has been linked to over 80% of all chronic illness and disease.

What exactly is stress? There are two types of stress: Short-term bursts or acute stress and long-term chronic stress. In short-term bursts, stressful experiences that release stress hormones are a healthy way for us to respond to a potentially dangerous situation. However, with repeated stresses in our lives from things like work, family and physical or mental dis-ease that never go away, our bodies don’t get a break from these chemicals and this puts us into a state of perpetual fight or flight mode. Long-term, this weakens and congests our systems and can show up as a long list of symptoms that make being in our bodies extremely uncomfortable.

When our systems (immune, endocrine, nervous, etc.) are compromised continuously by a chronic supply of stress hormones in the body, we are prone to make poor diet and lifestyle choices that can make us feel depressed or anxious, causing migraines, neck tension, brain fog and low energy. Over time, this high cortisol internal environment can contribute to obesity and diabetes, chronic pain/exhaustion, hypertension, high blood pressure, adrenal fatigue and more.

Yoga is great for stress relief. Focusing on the body and breath helps to clear the mind and relieve physical tension. Movement and fresh circulation throughout the body will help to flush the body of these toxic chemicals.
